Biography

Jamie blended her professional experience in the areas of retail buying, product development, marketing, management, visual merchandising, event planning and operations and transitioned to higher education where she could prepare students to lead in the fashion industry.  She began her career with Mercantile Department Stores in management and buying for the extended sizes and junior sportswear departments. With the knowledge gained with Mercantile, Jamie moved to Nashville and worked with specialty stores, and direct/online retailing with Genesco, Inc.  Her years of experience in the apparel, accessories and footwear industries for men, women and children laid the groundwork for the transition to academics.

Her experience has included serving as the Fashion Department Chair for 20+ years prior to being named as the Assistant Dean of Professional Engagement for the college.  Her top priority is setting students up for success, which includes real-life application and using the power of design to transform. Jamie has established collaborative projects with industry leaders that include Olah, Inc., fortune 500 enterprise Eastman Chemical Company, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Donor Services, Daybreak Arts, CreatiVets and GiGi’s Playhouse a Down syndrome achievement center.

Jamie is taking her love of external outreach and focusing on student career development, alumni engagement, expanding the college’s industry and community connections for all the major disciplines, and overseeing the internship program.
